The Industrial Property Division (IPD) is mandated to administer and protect industrial property rights in Bhutan in accordance with the Industrial Property Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2000, the Industrial Property Rules 2001, and the Geographical Indication Rules and Regulations of Bhutan 2025. It oversees the registration, protection, and promotion of intellectual property rights through key registries, including trademarks, patents and industrial designs, and geographical indications. Through these functions, the Division ensures that innovators, creators, businesses, and communities receive legal recognition and protection for their intellectual assets and distinctive products.

Guided by its broader mandate, the IPD works to strengthen Bhutan’s intellectual property ecosystem by promoting awareness, supporting commercialization of IP assets, and enhancing enforcement mechanisms. It also facilitates access to knowledge and technology, safeguards
cultural heritage and traditional knowledge, and builds international partnerships to protect Bhutanese IP rights globally. In delivering its services, the Division provides comprehensive registration support for patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications,
while continuously strengthening its institutional capacity to effectively serve stakeholders
